Object - Nouns, pronouns, or nominal phrases as object

The object (object) is placed after the verb. It is usually a noun, a pronoun, or a nominal phrase, and refers to the target of the action.

Subject + Verb + Object (noun/pronoun/nominal phrase)

How to use it

  • The object follows directly after the verb; no preposition for direct objects.

Examples

我吃苹果。

wǒ chī píngguǒ。

I eat an apple.

他看电影。

tā kàn diànyǐng。

He watches a film.

我们学习中文。

wǒmen xuéxí Zhōngwén。

We study Chinese.

Notes and exceptions

  • Some verbs take two objects: The teacher teaches us Chinese.

Common mistakes

  • The object is always AFTER the verb in Chinese.
