The verb-object phrase (动宾短语) associates a verb with its object complement. This is the basic structure to express an action.

How to use it
- The object follows the verb directly.
- Fundamental structure: 吃饭 (eat), 看书 (read), 喝水 (drink water).
Examples
吃饭。
chī fàn
Eat.
看书。
kàn shū。
Read.
说中文。
shuō Zhōngwén。
Speak Chinese.
喝水。
hē shuǐ
Drink water.
Notes and exceptions
- Some verb-object phrases are dissociable (see doctor, go to bed).
Common mistakes
- The object is always AFTER the verb: *中文说 → 说中文.
